July 20, 2012–Project Management Institute (PMI®) personnel have stated that the new version, the 5th edition, of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, more widely known as the PMBOK®, will be published at the end of 2012 for availability in January 2013. The Guide is the primary reference standard for those involved with project management and is one of the inputs upon which the PMP® and CAPM® project management certification exams are based.
While a draft of the new version was temporarily available for review by select industry participants earlier this year, no version is currently available through official channels.
PMI® has a policy of updating exams based on the standard six months after the release of the revised standard so changes to the exams, if any, are expected around July 2013. The general consensus, based on reviews of the draft of the new version of the standard, is that there will be few, if any, changes to the content of the certification exams due to the revised standard.
